God is calling forth His secret place dwellers. According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, to dwell means to remain for a time, to live as a resident (exist or lie), or to keep your attention directed towards a matter. As dwellers, we are called to inhabit or according to the Greek term katoikeō, house permanently or reside. There is a governmental action that takes place when we dwell in the secret place.
As you study the locations of where people were called to in the Bible, you notice the word dwell came after they had heeded the Word of the Lord in going and stayed in a place. Something always transpires when you truly inhabit a place spoken by God. I want to focus on Psalm 91 in order for you to understand how important it is to have knowledge of what God is saying about the secret place.
Psalm 91 states (Amplified): 1 He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High Will remain secure and rest in the shadow of the Almighty [whose power no enemy can withstand]. 2 I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress, My God, in whom I trust [with great confidence, and on whom I rely]!” 3 For He will save you from the trap of the fowler, And from the deadly pestilence. 4 He will cover you and completely protect you with His pinions, And under His wings you will find refuge; His faithfulness is a shield and a wall. 5 You will not be afraid of the terror of night, Nor of the arrow that flies by day, 6 Nor of the pestilence that stalks in darkness, Nor of the destruction (sudden death) that lays waste at noon. 7 A thousand may fall at your side And ten thousand at your right hand, But danger will not come near you. 8 You will only [be a spectator as you] look on with your eyes And witness the [divine] repayment of the wicked [as you watch safely from the shelter of the Most High]. 9 Because you have made the Lord, [who is] my refuge, Even the Most High, your dwelling place, 10 No evil will befall you, Nor will any plague come near your tent. 11 For He will command His angels in regard to you, To protect and defend and guard you in all your ways [of obedience and service]. 12 They will lift you up in their hands, So that you do not [even] strike your foot against a stone. 13 You will tread upon the lion and cobra; The young lion and the serpent you will trample underfoot. 14 “Because he set his love on Me, therefore I will save him; I will set him [securely] on high, because he knows My name [he confidently trusts and relies on Me, knowing I will never abandon him, no, never]. 15 “He will call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will rescue him and honor him. 16 “With a long life I will satisfy him And I will let him see My salvation.”
The importance of Psalm 91 is contingent upon verses 1 and 2 of “1 He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High ;Will remain secure and rest in the shadow of the Almighty [whose power no enemy can withstand]. 2 I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress, My God, in whom I trust [with great confidence, and on whom I rely]!”
To dwell in a place or situation must involve complete trust. The verses that follow are the result of declaring this before the Lord and moving in it. Cause and effect is very important here. Because He is my refuge and my fortress, in whom I trust…He will rescue me from every trap and protect me from deadly disease. If you were posed a question as to why something happened, you can answer with the cause. That’s where the place of faith is ignited and things change. An action must take place. The spirit of fear will have a person declaring words outside of God and then trying to get the results of verses 3-16. It will never work. Matter of fact, trying to do so will have you living in a place of double mindedness and confusion sort of like trying to get a song bird to bark like a dog.
The benefits of spending time and dwelling in the secret place of the Most High are mind-blowing! He is the “Most High”, “The Almighty”,and “the Lord”. Each of these names carry meaning, and when a person chooses to dwell, inhabit, become intimate, that person will become transformed. It’s not watered-down, stagnant, boring, or dry. It’s an awe-inspiring, jaw-dropping place of intimacy that is so fertile and rich that you can’t help but get pregnant with infinite possibilities that causes one to take on the very essence of His being! It’s about a relationship with Him which forges the fire of relationship with others built on His intimacy.
So many people want the benefits of Psalm 91, but they have not built a relationship with the Lord. They blame Him for their circumstances and say, “Where were you, Lord?” I like to pose that God was asking the same question to those who cried out in this fashion.
The Lord says, “Many have dwelled in physical and spiritual places of safety making that their refuge, but it was not the place I called them.”
The church building, your job, your spouse, your title, your intellect, your physical house, or within acting practices performed by people who deny God have been your safety place.
The oil that comes out of the secret place of the Most High is one that runs so deep, has no end, and carries a fragrance that brings with it the full manifestation of the Lord. CHANGE MUST and WILL HAPPEN!
Where have you been dwelling? Beware of those proclaiming to know God, but have only been hanging around the outer courts looking in at those who are truly dwelling. Fake masqueraders may have the gifts of the spirit, but have no desire to be intimate with the Giver.
God is calling His people back to His throne room. The Lord waging war with the enemy and sending His called ones to boldly move through the bowels of hell taking back that which belongs in His Kingdom and even smelling more like the fragrance of Almighty God in the process.
Set your heart in order, get into position and go before God, and let Him prepare you for the journey ahead. There’s mighty work to do. The time is now!
