A few days ago, I found myself listening to a very prominent person speak about coming off of certain devices and platforms. This person was giving great information with valid sources, but it was not the word of wisdom concerning the Lord. Yes, what they were saying held much value, but if I were to move according to their speech instead of the Lord’s wisdom, what I’ve been building would ultimately fail.
During this pivotal time, in the midst of very intelligent voices, it is crucial that the wisdom of the Lord be your guide.
Wisdom gives us the ability to know how to act, speak in various situations, and to live successful and disciplined lives as given in Proverbs 1:1-7. It goes way beyond human intelligence. The entire book of Proverbs is based on the practical wisdom of life. It’s not just about getting good advice, having good mental thoughts, but it fully involves servanthood, adhering to God’s word, and operating in love. Proverbs 1:7 (NLT) states, 7 Fear of the Lord is the foundation of true knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline. The origin of true wisdom is solely reliant on a relationship with God.
In order to know the health of any plant or crop, you have to look at the root system. Years ago, I had a particular species of plant called a Chinese evergreen (Aglaonema). It was considered a “plant of steel” due to its ability to thrive in tough environments. After a while, I noticed that it looked healthy and viable but its growth was very slow. When I pulled it from the soil, its root system was extremely small and stubby. How was this plant looking so sturdy and tough? It was genetically dispositioned for survival. However, even though this plant was able to survive, it still needed an agent to cause it to flourish properly.
Wisdom is much like fertilizer. Being in relationship with God will cause you to be fruitful (John 15: 1-17).
The Greek meaning of the word wisdom comes from the word sophía which means clarity or to be clear. It has ties to English-based words meaning “sophistication” and “philosopher“. In ancient Greece, a sophist (wise man) was a teacher of that time that excelled in multiple subjects, was excellent in their knowledge, and most charged money for others to obtain the knowledge they carried. There are no mixtures in wisdom because God is supremely pure. Many will proclaim they are christian displaying their humanistic views while stamping the name of God on it.
Even creatures of this world operate in wisdom as given in Proverbs 30:24-28 (NLT): 24 There are four things on earth that are small but unusually wise: 25 Ants—they aren’t strong, but they store up food all summer. 26 Hyraxes (coneys or rock rabbits)—they aren’t powerful, but they make their homes among the rocks.27 Locusts—they have no king, but they march in formation.28 Lizards—they are easy to catch, but they are found even in kings’ palaces.
If the creatures of this world operate in wisdom, how much more powerful it is that we as people choose wisdom. How can we operate in true love if the One who created you is not a part of the blueprint? Are you building a house on hurt, disappointment, fear, selfish gain, doubt, …? God brings continuous clarity. Relationships built through Him take time, and what He has for you to build is to last throughout generations. Every single part of who we are must be involved in the process. God cares about the details concerning you, and His works are wonderful! May your soul know this. (Psalm 139:14).
Go to Him today. Let Him fill you with His wisdom and tremendous love. He’s waiting on you.
