It is important to choose Wisdom! The most crucial foundation to stand upon right now is Wisdom. It is practical in knowledge and deals with the seriousness of ethical choices needed today in life.
To obtain Wisdom requires discipline. Proverbs is a how-to book of wisdom for the affairs of life, and although Solomon did not write all of the proverbs, he imputed much to the book.
In 1 Kings 3:9, Solomon stated, 9 “Give me an understanding heart so that I can govern your people well and know the difference between right and wrong. For who by himself is able to govern this great people of yours?” NLT
Solomon had the opportunity to ask for anything he wanted, and he chose wisdom. Because of Solomon’s selfless ways, God gave him what he desired and the rewards that came with it in 1 Kings 3 verses 12-14, 12 “I will give you what you asked for! I will give you a wise and understanding heart such as no one else has had or ever will have! 13 And I will also give you what you did not ask for—riches and fame! No other king in all the world will be compared to you for the rest of your life! 14 And if you follow me and obey my decrees and my commands as your father, David, did, I will give you a long life.”
It was seen throughout the book of Proverbs how Solomon’s actions demonstrated or showed proof of the Wisdom given to him by God. Not only did the people he led as king demonstrate great wisdom, but this gift of wisdom from God was manifested in Solomon’s wealth and honor in 2 Chronicles 1:14-17.
Jesus acknowledged Solomon’s great wisdom and made aware to those that listened that someone with greater wisdom than Solomon was among them.
Matthew 12:42 says, 42 The queen of Sheba will also stand up against this generation on judgment day and condemn it, for she came from a distant land to hear the wisdom of Solomon. Now someone greater than Solomon is here—but you refuse to listen.
Her reaction to what she experienced is noted in 1 Kings 10:1-10. God praised the queen’s seeking for wanting to know the truth. He condemned the Pharisees and teachers of the religious law for not recognizing Him, the One who was greater than Solomon.
Jesus is the Wisdom of God as given in 1 Corinthians 1:24. However, to understand more, let’s look at verses 22-24.
22 It is foolish to the Jews, who ask for signs from heaven. And it is foolish to the Greeks, who seek human wisdom. 23 So when we preach that Christ was crucified, the Jews are offended and the Gentiles say it’s all nonsense.
24 But to those called by God to salvation, both Jews and Gentiles, Christ is the power of God and the wisdom of God.
It is only through Christ Jesus that we find the utmost Wisdom: Colossians 2:6-9.
6 And now, just as you accepted Christ Jesus as your Lord, you must continue to follow Him. 7 Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness.
Once again, you must be taught and take in His ways. It’s in Him where we find Wisdom…not just in mere humans…understand the value and necessity of where the True Wisdom is from…verses 8-10 of Colossians 2 continues by stating, 8 Don’t let anyone capture you with empty philosophies and high-sounding nonsense that come from human thinking and from the spiritual powers of this world, rather than from Christ. 9 For in Christ lives all the fullness of God in a human body. 10 So you also are complete through your union with Christ, who is the head over every ruler and authority.
We must, as willing vessels, surrender all unto the Lord. There are many that have veered off the path of the Lord and have not repented. May God give you great discernment in this season.
Always remember to spend time with the Lord in prayer so that you may have the valuable tools necessary to live a successful life as stated in Proverbs 4:4-6.
4 My father taught me, “Take my words to heart. Follow my commands, and you will live.
5 Get wisdom; develop good judgment. Don’t forget my words or turn away from them.
6 Don’t turn your back on wisdom, for she will protect you. Love her, and she will guard you.
May you today, through acquiring Wisdom, know how to behave in various situations, avoid and navigate through problems when they happen, and may you demonstrate the many facets of Wisdom that go far beyond intelligence! For great Wisdom is needed in this world now more than ever!
Choose Wisdom!
