A farmer doesn’t plant seeds and forget about his crop. Keep your eyes on God’s promises. Hebrews 11:1 states, “11 Now faith is the assurance (title deed, confirmation) of things hoped for (divinely guaranteed), and the evidence of things not seen [the conviction of their reality—faith comprehends as fact what cannot be experienced by the physical senses].”

Recently, the Lord reminded me of a tray of wheatgrass that I had sprouted a while back. Everyday, twice a day, I flushed it with water and made sure it was properly drained in order for it to grow properly. Well, during its time of growth, I’d gotten busy with doing other things, and the tray of wheatgrass had begun to grow really tall. It was during this time of high growth that in my busyness (distraction), I’d overlooked the fact to let my wheatgrass drain properly. At that particular stage of growth, the roots of the wheatgrass were so strong that it held a lot of water, but most of that water was not needed. That which I’d planted from seed was being neglected. It took me a few times to realize that the color was turning from a bright green to a yellowish color. When I finally saw it, I took the tray and allowed it to properly drain. To my surprise, there was so much water inside the tray that it took over 5 minutes for the water to completely drain. Dampness of the roots had caused mold to grow and the vibrant color to fade. My negligence had caused my harvest to become rotten, and I was no longer able to partake of the vital nutrients my wheatgrass had to offer.

In John 4:34-38, Jesus was trying to get the disciplines to understand what He was saying to them from a spiritual aspect and not from an earthly one. The New Living Translation says,  “34 Then Jesus explained: “My nourishment comes from doing the will of God, who sent me, and from finishing his work. 35 You know the saying, ‘Four months between planting and harvest.’ But I say, wake up and look around. The fields are already ripe for harvest. 36 The harvesters are paid good wages, and the fruit they harvest is people brought to eternal life. What joy awaits both the planter and the harvester alike! 37 You know the saying, ‘One plants and another harvests.’ And it’s true. 38 I sent you to harvest where you didn’t plant; others had already done the work, and now you will get to gather the harvest.”

Jesus had planted seed with the Samaritan woman at the well and was already seeing a harvest among the people in Samaria. Many Samaritans not only believed because of what the Samaritan woman had told them, but because they had heard Him for themselves. They took initiative to seek Jesus and listen to what He was saying.

We must lay hold of the season that is upon us. The fields are ready for the harvesting and it is vital that we get in position for God to prepare us to do the work. As we go about our Father’s business, it is in that place that we find nourishment. Don’t lose out on the harvest that is now and is to come. What He’s called us to do right now is putting us in a prime position for victory in His Kingdom. We must finish the work! It’s so very important to seek His face for instruction.

Jesus says it clearly in John 4 verse 35, “Wake up and look around. The fields are already ripe for harvest.” The time is now! Why are you waiting for others to do what God has called you to do?

May we be undistracted and vigilant in seeking what the Lord has for us. Help us Lord to move at a steady pace receiving our nourishment from You.
